A Letter to Our Girls Play Flag Football Families: Leadership Transition & Program Updates
To Our Girls Play Flag Football Families,
We hope this message finds you and your athlete well. We’re reaching out with an important update that marks the next chapter in the evolution of Girls Play Flag Football.
A New Chapter: Transition to Just Compete Sports Leadership
As part of a broader effort to create a more unified, stable, and growth-oriented program, Girls Play Flag Football will now operate under the leadership and management of Just Compete Sports. Previously functioning as an independent program, Girls Play Flag Football will maintain its unique brand identity and partnership with the Kansas City Chiefs while being fully integrated into the Just Compete Sports family, which also oversees Kansas City NFL Flag (formerly known as Chiefs Flag Football).
We want to assure you: this is not a goodbye to what you’ve helped build—this is an intentional step forward to strengthen it.
Introducing New Leadership
With this transition, we are proud to introduce the leadership team overseeing Girls Play Flag Football under Just Compete Sports:
- Brianna Myers, Program Director, Just Compete Sports
- Julia Viles, Lead Coordinator & Assistant Program Director, Just Compete Sports
- Lily Van Senus, Executive Vice President, Just Compete Sports
We also want to take a moment to recognize Crystal Ford, whose vision and commitment were instrumental in building Girls Play Flag Football into what it is today. Her leadership helped open doors for countless young athletes across Kansas, Missouri & Colorado. As we enter this new phase, Crystal’s focus is expanding to support the overall growth and success of Just Compete Sports and its affiliated programs—not just Girls Play Flag Football.
We’re proud to share that Crystal now serves as Senior Vice President of Business Development & Community Impact. In this role, she is helping lead strategic partnerships, community engagement, and expansion efforts across the organization. She also continues to serve as a chair member on both the Just Compete Sports Foundation and the Girls Play Flag Football Foundation, our nonprofit initiatives dedicated to ensuring access and equity in youth sports.
We’re grateful for her ongoing leadership and look forward to the continued impact she’ll make across all areas of our organization.
Program Standardization & Immediate Policy Changes
1. NFL FLAG Uniform Requirement
All teams must wear NFL FLAG-branded uniforms. Independent or non-NFL-branded uniforms will no longer be permitted in league play.
If your organization fields multiple teams in different divisions (e.g., 10U and 12U), each team must have a different NFL team affiliation and corresponding uniform.
· In Kansas & Missouri, players will wear Kansas City Chiefs jerseys, while in Colorado, girls will take the field in Denver Broncos jerseys. This alignment not only strengthens our local partnerships but also reflects the national standard that all NFL FLAG leagues must wear officially branded uniforms corresponding to their team affiliations.
2. Single Team Roster Policy
Players must be rostered on a single team for the entirety of the season through division playoffs and Super Bowl. Players may not move between teams or divisions during the season.
Example: If a player on a 10U team plays a game with a 12U team, that player will be permanently rostered to the 12U team and may not return to 10U play—even if age-eligible.
3. Roster Consistency Requirement
All team rosters must be finalized by the start of the season and may not be altered once league play begins. The submitted roster will be the only eligible roster for that team during the regular season, tournament, and postseason games.
4. Team Transfer Limitations
Transfers between teams are only permitted before or after a season. In-season transfers will only be approved under rare and extenuating circumstances and must be reviewed by Just Compete Sports leadership. Each case will be considered individually with parent and coach input as needed.
Recruitment, Coaching Ethics & Player Requests
Coach-to-Player Recruiting Is Prohibited
- Coaches may not recruit players from other teams within the league. Attempts to form “powerhouse” teams by targeting top players will result in disciplinary action.
Buddy & Coach Requests Still Allowed
Families may continue to submit buddy and coach requests during registration. We aim to keep friends and families together—while maintaining fair and balanced teams.
- Team Change Requests
- If a family wishes to request a new team assignment for future seasons, we will review each case individually to ensure the best possible experience for the player while protecting the integrity of team parity.
Practice Expectations & Time Commitment
Girls Play Flag Football remains a recreational league with a competitive spirit—not a competitive league. With that in mind:
- NFL FLAG’s Recommended Time Commitment: 1 practice + 1 game per week (2 hours total)
Any additional practices must be:
• Free of charge
• Open to all players on the team
• Optional, with no penalty or reduction in playing time for those who do not attend
Outside Training Policy
If a player from our league chooses to participate in outside paid training or private sessions with a coach during the season, the following guidelines must be strictly followed:
These sessions must be conducted independently and outside the scope of Girls Play Flag Football or Just Compete Sports programming.
-
No coach may charge current players for extra practices or training during the season under the name of our league or while representing it in any form.
- These outside activities must not be presented, advertised, or implied as a requirement to play in our leagues, nor may they be disguised as part of our official season or registration.
-
If a coach is offering additional training through an established and reputable external business or program not affiliated with Just Compete Sports or NFL FLAG, that is allowed—but it must be disclosed to us and clearly separated in writing. There must be no confusion between the league and the private offering.
-
Violations of this policy will result in a formal warning or appropriate compliance action.
Our Mission Moving Forward
Just Compete Sports was founded on one core value: Compete. Always.
That doesn’t mean every athlete is playing in a high-level league. It means that every athlete, regardless of age, background, or ability, is given the opportunity to compete, grow, and enjoy the game of football in a fun, fair, and inclusive environment.
In support of this mission, we will:
Expand access to new tournaments and development opportunities
- Introduce postseason events for teams not in the top standings
- Offer more clinics and training camps to support all players—not just the elite few
- We believe this model builds better athletes, better people, and stronger communities.
In Closing
We are genuinely excited about the changes ahead and confident these updates will lead to a more united, transparent, and positive experience for all Girls Play Flag Football families. This is just the beginning of a new chapter—and we’re honored to walk it with you.
As always, your feedback is welcome. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas. Thank you for allowing us to serve your family and your athlete. We’re grateful for the opportunity and excited about what’s next.
With gratitude,
Miguel Zepeda
President, Just Compete Sports
